In Israel, the phenomenon of children and teenagers dropping out of school is one of the main symptoms and causes of emotional breakdown among young people and their families, and one of the main factors in creating and maintaining social gaps. It is also associated with risky behaviors that inhibit their ability to succeed. Sometimes truancy is visible, but often a student’s frequent absences go unnoticed or they are present but passive in the classroom.
Before the COVID pandemic, over 85,000 young people in Israel were recognized as dropping out of school. The pandemic and the Iron Swords War following October 7 have exacerbated the situation, and left many Israeli teenagers struggling with feelings of anxiety, stress, and physical and emotional exhaustion. This ongoing uncertainty leaves many students feeling that they have not had a learning routine for many years, because their education has been interrupted. Many complain that their school places too much emphasis on learning and does not help them to develop emotional resilience.
The Menifa Approach
Menifa believes in the ability of every disconnected student to return to school and achieve meaningful learning goals. We use our holistic coaching model to create motivation and a desire for change within each student, while supporting their ability to walk away from risky situations and return to full functioning. We place emphasize and work to strengthen the healthy and functioning part of each student, at the same time as creating a framework for treating their weakness, and working to show them their strengths and develop their identity and confidence. We teach them to accept responsibility and develop trust, so they can learn to integrate into society.
